Why Host an Information Session at Western?

Information Session provide you with an opportunity to profile your program and have meaningful conversations with students about your application criterial and process.

The Success Centre will support all logistical arrangement: we will schedule your event at a convenient time, reserve a venue, provide audio-visual support, and manage student registration. We will also take care of all on-campus marketing—simply tell us who you’d like to reach!

Cost & Essential Information

Fees

  • There is a $200 fee for an information session
  • Payment for your session is made online. We will provide you with a payment link once your session is confirmed
  • Mid-day sessions are available Monday - Friday, 12:30 to 2:00 p.m.
  • Additional times are available upon request. Please contact hirewesternu@uwo.ca

Location

  • We will work with you to reserve the best on-campus location for your session
  • The rooms are set-up for a short presentation, and have complete audio-visual capabilities        

Catering

  • Catering must be arranged through Great Hall Catering, and outside food is not permitted. Great Hall Catering has a wonderful selection on their website for your viewing.  Catering will be invoiced directly from Great Hall Catering

Please note: The Student Success Centre will do their best to provide an accurate and up-to-date information on the number of students registered for your session.  However, we cannot assume responsibility for student attendance at your event.

Recommended Format

We recommend that your information session includes a short 20-30 minute presentation, followed by a question and answer session. In your presentation share with students:

  • Information about your education institution
  • Benefits of your academic program 
  • Important application dates and timeline (application deadline, interview, and acceptance letter)
  • Any other key information that you want to share including short videos from former students

Directions & Parking

Directions:

  • Follow Hwy 401 to Highbury Avenue Exit (#189)
  • Follow Highbury Avenue (north) to Oxford Street (9 km)
  • Turn left (west) onto Oxford Street and follow to Wharncliffe Road (4 km)
  • Turn right (north) onto Wharncliffe Road (becomes Western Road)
  • Turn right (east) onto Lambton Drive into campus
  • Turn right onto Lambton Drive (off of Western Road), continue around the circle and proceed to the Weldon Lot to park.

Parking:

  • Each Information Session includes parking for 1 vehicle at no additional cost.  

To obtain access to the parking lot simply provide the parking attendant with your name.  We will have notified parking of your arrival in advance of your session.

Promoting Your Session

Promoting Your Session

The Success Centre is dedicated to promoting your session on campus.  We utilize the various mediums outlined below:

  • Your event is posted on CareerCentral (Western’s online job posting and event database). 
  • E-mail notifications are sent to relevant faculties who distribute information about your session directly to students.
  • We promote your session through Facebook and Twitter
  • Your session is advertised on flat screen TVs in our Centre.  If there is a specific logo or advertisement you would like us to use, please send it at least two weeks prior to your session
  • Ship physical posters to our attention and we can distribute them to our faculty partners.  A colour poster, on 11”x17” paper is recommended.   Alternatively, we can forward electronic copies of your poster to our faculty partners. This service is provided at no additional charge.

Additional Promotional Opportunities:

Below are a few additional outlets through which you may wish to promote your information session.

Poster Patrol

Poster Patrol is a service offered by the University Student’s Council that will place your poster in high volume areas. The cost to have thirty-five of your 8.5/11 posters approved and distributed across campus for one week is approximately $141.25 (additional weeks are $100 each). Job Postings

Don’t forget that many students will be searching for jobs on CareerCentral.  Consider posting the position you are recruiting for in advance to deepen their interest and engagement with your organization. It’s a great idea to include a description of your company with links to your website, as well as the detailed information about your session once it has been confirmed.

The Gazette

The Gazette is Western’s student newspaper. 11,000 copies are distributed across campus, four days a week. Advertisements begin at $60. To advertise your upcoming information session, please contact The Gazette at 519-661-3579 or adoffice@uwo.ca.

Western News

Western News is the official newspaper of the university. 10,000 copies a week are distributed on Thursdays to more than 50 on-campus locations and numerous off-campus sites. Advertisements start at $34. Contact Western News at 519-434-9990 or campusad@sympatico.ca

Another method of advertising is through the on-campus student-run radio station. Please contact Radio Western directly.
