Getting experience that is relevant to your career is not limited to and does not end when you’ve secured paid employment. In fact, we know that the skills employers value most often come from experiences that are not necessarily work-related. These skills are developed through campus and community involvement, volunteer and leadership experiences, traveling abroad, and more. Having strong communication skills, an ability to get along with others through team and group work, being flexible and adaptable, and being able to present yourself with confidence, are some of the most important skills you can possess, from an employer’s perspective. What’s best is that you can have fun and develop these skills at the same time!
