Put It Into Practice Professional Development Forum (November 21, 2012) 

Put It Into Practice is a professional development opportunity for current graduate students to learn more about the opportunities and/or challenges that they may encounter when considering non-academic employment options.  More details to follow.

Career Week (February 4- February 8, 2013)

Career Week provides meaningful opportunities for students and alumni to focus on their life/work journey, research career interests, attend career fairs, interact with role models, and discover emerging trends in the labour market. You could participate on career information panels, career-related workshops, employers’ panels, alumni panels, information session experiences, employers’ presentations or as a special guest speaker.  Consider having a career displays or sponsoring events or the entire career week programming. Preparing for Non-Academic Employment Week (exact week in May 2013 to be announced)

This one week program is designed to address the needs of PhD students and postdoctoral fellows who are seeking information, support and practice as they prepare for their post-academic job search. Working in a small group setting with other PhD candidates, postdoctoral fellows, staff members and employers, participants will explore the elements associated with job searching outside of the academy including self-exploration, transferable skills identification, targeting the job search, networking, understanding the employers’ perspective and refining interview skills.You could support our students by participating in a resume review or interview skills workshop.
